She saw everyone posting glittery pictures posing with their dearest brothers, tying them the rakhi, laughing out loud, hugging and cheering with their brothers. But her life is nowhere close to these Instagram pictures on this day. She is usually tensed and worried thinking if she will be allowed to tie rakhi to her brother whom she love the most.
As usual, like every other Rakha Bandhan day, she was not allowed. she was rejected AGAIN. But this time she was prepared. She prepared her heart and soul to take this in a lighter way. Just when she was about to leave with a fake smile, her vadina (bhabhi) stopped her, pulled a chair lying nearby, and asked her to sit. She gently kept sindoor on her forehead and handed over a cover. She thought okay maybe it's a blouse piece(it's a tradition followed in India to not send guests empty-handed). So she accepted it. She waved goodbyes to her vadina and the brother who never looked at her. she went downstairs, and sat in the car, while she was lost in thoughts of how her brother responded and how she could have made him accept her request to tie rakhi, she casually opened the cover. She was shocked and saddened by what she saw next. A blouse piece as anticipated, and a few 500 rupee notes from vadina with a note "Thank you for standing by like a big brother. Happy Raksha Bandhan."
Tears rolled down her eyes.
Thank you universe, for blessing me with the sweetest Vadinamma.
